Laurel Bard - 2026 Scholarship Winner
Laurel is a senior at Sprague High School and plans to attend George Fox University to study nursing in the fall. While earning her bachelor’s degree in nursing, she plans to use her university experience to gain valuable skills and life experiences to bring to her career. She has already started down this path by volunteering at Salem Hospital and at a hospice agency. Lauren commented, “Those experiences have strengthened my empathy and resolve to work in healthcare. Earning my CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant License) provided me with invaluable hands-on patient care experiences.”
Music is also an important part of Lauren’s life. She is the principal cellist of Sprague’s top orchestra, a member of the Salem Youth Symphony and teaches cello lessons to young musicians in the Salem area. She also works with Westminster Presbyterian Church’s youth program and participated in three mission trips to Puerto Rico where she worked on homes damaged by Hurricane Maria.
Whether through healthcare, music or service, Lauren strives to impact her community positively, not only through her actions, but also through the positive and joyful attitude she brings to every situation.
